Mars Petcare names president

Luc Mongeau has been named president of Mars Petcare, the Franklin-based pet food division of Mars Inc.

Mongeau joins the division after two years as the general manager of Mars Canada, where he oversaw all of the company's operations in that country. Mongeau has been with the company since 1996.

Mongeau replaces Doug Cahill, who had led the division since it bought Brentwood-based Doane Pet Care in 2005. A former Doane executive, Cahill said he had agreed to stay with Mars for three years after the acquisition to oversee the two firms' integration.

"I'm not a big-company guy," he said.

Cahill will remain involved with the company through his role as a board member of Banfield, a veterinary clinic chain that operates in PetSmart stores. Mars is a major shareholder in Banfield.
