Gordon Inman to leave Fifth Third board; makes plans for a new venture

Gordon E. Inman announced today that he will step down as chairman of Fifth Third Bank Tennessee, a post he held for nearly seven years following the 2004 merger of Franklin Financial Corporation here with Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank.

Inman co-founded Franklin Financial in 1989, and he has had several other entrepreneurial success stories in industries ranging from banking to real estate or telecommunications.
Inman said he’s leaving the bank to pursue other business opportunities.

“At this point, I’m ready to move on to several opportunities that have presented themselves and to which I want to give some undivided attention,” he said.

“At our request, Gordon graciously agreed to remain as chairman for a period of time beyond our original contract, and we have been most appreciative of his additional time and commitment,” said Dan Hogan, president and CEO of Fifth Third, Tennessee.

Hogan will assume the role of chairman in April.

“Gordon Inman has the Midas touch when it comes to business success and, more importantly, he’s been a generous philanthropist to the benefit of Nashville and Tennessee,” said fellow entrepreneur Clayton McWhorter, who suggested he may play a role in whatever business venture comes next for Inman.

No other details were immediately available.
