Nashville Chamber of Commerce gives spirit awards

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce threw a celebration Wednesday, handing out spirit awards to local executives who have been instrumental in supporting the pro-business group's initiatives.
So-called "Spirit of the Chamber" awards went to Tami Ross of the Original Basket Boutique for her role as a member of the Education Advocacy Committee; Charles Sueing of Nationwide Insurance/The Sueing Agency, for small-business leadership; Joyce Searcy, Bethlehem Centers of Nashville, for two years of work on the chamber's Education Report Card Committee; Doug Brandon of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker for supporting Partnership 2010's economic development work; and the top "Spirit of the Region" award to Tom Negri, general manager of the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, for his work on the chamber's push to defeat an English-only Metro ordinance.

There also was a presentation of the Chamber of the Year Award to the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce from Mick Fleming, president and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, a national group that honors innovative chambers around the country.
