Some of the wealthiest Tennesseans are losing millions of dollars

Even the wealthy are still financially hurting from the recession. Some of Tennessee's wealthiest people lost millions of dollars over the last year, according to Forbes magazine's rankings of the 400 richest Americans.
Martha Ingram of Ingram Industries and her family lost $800 million in wealth over the last year, falling 11 places to be ranked 158th on Forbes' list. That's a ranking shared by 25 others, including real estate mogul Donald Trump and Facebook CEO and President Mark Zuckerberg with an estimated $2 billion in wealth each, according to Forbes.

Frederick Smith, chairman, president and CEO of Memphis-based FedEx, lost $350 million in wealth over the last year, falling 15 places to 212th on the list.

But there is one bright spot. Thomas F. Frist Jr., 71, and his family actually gained wealth in the recession. Frist of HCA Healthcare gained $100 million in wealth, rising to a value of $2 billion, according to Forbes. That rose his ranking from 246th last year to 158th this year, Forbes said.

The wealthiest person in the nation is still Microsoft's Bill Gates, valued at $50 billion in wealth, according to Forbes.
